Add crops and calculate their input emissions in FLAG

Each land inside Land management has three cards: Crops (inputs like fertilizer), Facilities, and Vehicles. This guide covers crops — how to add one, enter its inputs, and read the resulting emissions.

Add a crop

Open a land — for example, “Finca Norte” — and go to its Crops card. To add a new crop, click the add button and fill in:

Name and crop type
The reporting period the data covers
Cultivated area for that crop in that period
Production output for the period
The percentage of residue burned or removed, if any

Supplier land: one extra field, and a weighting ratio

On a supplier’s land, the crop form has one additional field: the supplier’s total production for the period. You also enter how much of that total you actually purchased.

Why the purchased ratio matters

This ratio determines how much of the supplier's emissions get assigned to you. For example, if a supplier produced 100,000 kg of grapes in 2025 and you bought 50,000 kg — half — you're only assigned half of that supplier's emissions for the period. If the supplier's total emissions were 100 tCO2e, 50 tCO2e would be allocated to you.

Once a crop exists, add its inputs (fertilizer use, etc.) for the period you’re reporting.

See the emissions in a visualization

To see how these emissions get categorized, build a visualization:

Go to Visualizations and create a new carbon footprint pivot table.
By default it may be filtered to a single year — widen the year filter if you’ve entered data for more than one.
In rows, add Scope as the first level, then expand a Category — you’ll see a new category: Land management.

Where Land management emissions land

Residue burning and soil management on your own land appear under Scope 1 → Land management. The same kind of emissions from a supplier's land appear under Scope 3 → Purchased goods & services → Land management instead.
